The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has announced Bridgeview Medical Practice as the worthy recipient of the 2013 NSW General Practice of the Year Award.
The RACGP General Practice of the Year Award is designed to recognise practices for their approach to patients’ health and wellbeing. The award criteria takes into account a number of factors including the services on offer to patients, the health promotion initiatives in place, the provision of high quality care and the practice’s involvement in general practice teaching.
Bridgeview Medical Practice, located in the Sydney suburb of Toongabbie, was selected as the winning recipient based on the clinic’s ongoing dedication to delivering high quality primary health services to the community.
Dr Guan Yeo, Chair of the RACGP NSW&ACT Faculty, congratulated the GPs and staff members at Bridgeview Medical Practice on winning the award and praised the team’s response in meeting the health needs of the communities in Western Sydney.
“Bridgeview Medical Practice is a team of passionate, thoughtful and proactive medical professionals with a holistic approach to healthcare. They are thoroughly committed to the overall health of the patients and offer an invaluable primary healthcare service to the Western Sydney region,” he said.
As a multi-disciplinary health centre, the practice provides a wide range of services including women’s and men’s health, preventive care, skin cancer checks, work cover, pathology, nursing, physiotherapy, dietetics, podiatry, paediatric, psychiatry and exercise physiology. The practice also offers ultrasound, procedural and travel clinics and community talks. A number of services are offered in Tamil language catering to a large number of the patients who have English as a second language.
Bridgeview Medical Practice is e-health ready and have actively been involved in the roll out of the government’s national e-health records system in Western Sydney.
The practice’s long standing commitment to teaching and training make it an essential part of the general practice training landscape in Western Sydney and a desired training place for registrars and junior doctors.
The practice is also actively involved in training medical students through Sydney University and University of Western Sydney and has an innovative teaching and training model that encourages local high school students to undertake their work experience at the practice.
Dr Thava Seelan, practice principal, who accepted the award on behalf of the other practice principals Drs Shanthini Seelan and Mary Lumina Titus, said the whole team is thrilled with the award. “The team always strives to provide optimal healthcare for their patients as part and parcel of the holistic care provided at Bridgeview. It is indeed a great honour for us to be recognised for the services provided to the local community,” Dr Thava Seelan said.
The 2013 RACGP NSW General Practice of the Year Award will be presented to Bridgeview Medical Practice at the RACGP NSW & ACT Faculty Awards Ceremony in Sydney on 16 November at 4.00 pm.
