Wonderful article Ghanashyam. I have a question. As you nicely said since desire is the root cause of all problems, should we become free from all desires? In the practical world that is very hard, do you agree?

I was very angry with a racist idiot this morning imitating my walk. After reading this I understood this is due to self attachment and EGO. I also understood that Anger can cause only pain to myself and others. I am happy I read this article 1st thing in the morning. Thanks Ghanashayam

Nice article Ghanashyam. I totally agree that desire leading to disappointment is the main cause for the anger.I have a question. When things around you is not working correctly and you wanted to be perfect, that leads to anger/frustration. How do you handle this?
Thanks Jayashree

Ghanashyam, Thanks for the wonderful article. I have experienced and also seen few people who try to test our patience and tolerance level which also results in anger. The more we control our anger, the more they test our patience. How do we handle this?

Hare Krsna Indiran!
Thanks for your nice question. Yes, you are right. As humans and as individuals we all have desires. Desires are very much part of our nature and we cannot live without them. However if our desires are selfish i.e., if we try to have desires to enjoy separately from Krsna that's where problem arises and we become depressed as I highlighted in this article. So we should direct all our inherent desires to serve Krsna. That way our desires will get fulfilled and at the same time we can be happy always. For eg, we may have a desire to eat nice food. What we can do is, we can cook nice foodstuffs and offer to Krsna and eat as Krsna prasad. If we have desire to make more money, then we should make more money and give a part of it to Krsna. That is the perfection of our desires and our life as well.

Hope thats clear.

Hare Krsna Subu!
Yes, you are right. We should try to control our desires to the maximum extent possible. However controlling our desires by our own endeavor alone is an impossible task. I will write on this topic in another couple of weeks. As you will see by following the "Regulative principles" of Bhagavad Gita we can gradually succeed in mastering our desires.

Thank you very much.

Hare Krsna Venkat!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful realisation with everyone. You are right, the more we forget Krsna and think that we are the boss, the more we have to suffer. People make mistakes and suffer because of ignorance. In this case the person who inflicted pain on your feelings acted on the bodily platform and thats why he committed the mistake. Everyone think that we are this body and act in that platform. That is the root cause of majority of problems in the world at the moment. By chanting Hare Krsna maha mantra we can elevate ourselves above bodily platform and become spiritual even in this life.

We should just chant and be happy.

Hare Krsna Jayashree!
Thanks for your comment and honest question. We have to understand something really basic. No one in this world is perfect:) and that the scope of our control in anything is very limited. For eg, if I want to shoot an arrow at a target, I can take the best aim and release the arrow at the right moment. I have full control over my arrow. But if my target moves away before the arrow hits it, well I am not to be blamed.
Similarly, in our job or in life we can only do as much as we can and leave the rest to Krsna. As you rightly said, worrying about others not doing their job properly only brings anger and frustration to us. Just like when you board a bus, lets say from Sydney to Melbourne. After you get in the bus, you never worry how the driver is gonna maneuver the bus. You just get in the bus and sit on your seat. Your job ends there. From then on you put full faith in the driver and relax all through the journey. Don't you? Similarly we should be fully dependent on Krsna, do our job(studies, work, family life etc), chant his holy name and relax. As long as Krsna drives our life, we can enjoy the journey and at the end we will reach our destination without fail.

Hare Krsna Srivatsa!
Thanks for your comment. You have raised a very practical problem. We need to understand that every human is by nature good. Due to ignorance or association with bad friends, they tend to assume qualities that are not so conducive. As you said, there may be persons who try to irritate us either innocently or deliberately. We feel angry only when we feel insulted. Don't we? There is a saying 'No one can insult you unless and until you are ready to take it'. So we need to become immune to these insults. No one can stop these insults from existence. What we can do is work on the remedy for this problem to make ourselves immune to this attack.
For eg, once you take proper vaccines, you become immune to chicken pox. After vaccination, it doesn't matter whether chicken pox is prevalant or not, it does not affect you any more. Does it?
Similarly we are all afflicted with the disease of identifying ourselves with our body. What are the symptoms of this disease? - Well they are desire, hate, anger, jealousy, greed etc. The moment we try to go beyond the conception of body and understand that we are eternal individual souls and that we are all servants of Krsna, then the disease goes way. Thats why to get rid of this disease we should vaccinate ourselves by regularly chanting Hare Krsna maha mantra.
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare!
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!!
By regularly chanting this mantra, we can become immune to this problem of anger and lead a happy and peaceful life.

Thank you very much.
