மேலதிகமாக 50 பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர்களுக்கான அவசர நிதி உதவி கோரல்:

இந்த வருடம் ஏப்பிரல், மே மாதங்களில் 116 யாழ் பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர்கள் தடுப்பு முகாம்களிலிருந்து விடுவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். இவர்களில் சிலர் தமது தாய் தந்தையினருடன் சென்று தமது புதிய வாழ்க்கையை ஆரம்பித்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

இவர்களில் சுமார் 50 மாணவர்களுக்கு குடும்பத்தினர் இல்லாத நிலையிலோ அல்லது குடும்பத்தினரால் அன்றாட வாழ்க்கைச் செலவைப் பூர்த்தி செய்ய இயலாதநிலையிலோ உள்ளனர். இவர்கள் யாழ் பல்ககலைக்கழக துணைவேந்தர் ஊடாக எம்மிடம் நிதியுதவிக்கு விண்ணப்பித்துள்ளனர். இவர்களின் பட்டப்படிப்பு தொடரவும், அவர்களது எதிர்காலம் சிறக்கவும், நாம் எமது “பல்கலைக்கழக நிதியுதவித் திட்டமூடாக” அவர்களையும் அரவணைத்து நிதியுதவி செய்யத் தீர்மானித்துள்ளோம்.

இவர்களுடன் மொத்தமாக 130க்கு மேற்பட்ட பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர்கள் ‘பல்கலைக்கழக நிதியுதவித் திட்டம் (Unifund project)’ நிதியுதவியுடன் (sponsorship) தமது பட்டப்படிப்பை தொடர வாய்ப்பு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. ‘பல்கலைக்கழக நிதியுதவித் திட்டம் (Unifund Project) மட்டும் தான் பல்கலைக்கழக நெறிமுறைகளை அனுரித்து, தொடர்ச்சியாக பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மாணவர்களுக்கு ‘துணைவேந்தரின் நலன்புரி நிதியத்தினூடாக’நிதியுதவி வழங்கி வருகின்றது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

இதுவரை உதவி வழங்கிய தமிழ் அன்பர்களுக்கு எமது மனங்கனிந்த நன்றியைத் தெரிவிக்கும் அதே தருணம், கல்வியே எமது ஈழத் தமிழ் சமுதாயத்தின் பெரும் சொத்து. தொடர்ந்தும் எமது இளைய ஈழத் தமிழ் சமுதாயம் தமது கல்வியறிவைப் பெற எம்மூடாக உதவி செய்ய அழைக்கின்றோம். இந்த பல்கலைக்கழக நிதியுதவித் திட்டத்தின் விபரங்களை உங்கள் உறவினர்களுக்கும்,நண்பர்களுக்கும் அனுப்பி வையுங்கள். மேலதிக விபரங்கள் பெற எம்முடன் தொடர்பு கொள்ளவும். அத்துடன் எமது இணையத்தளத்தைப் பார்க்கவும். As we approach one year service of Unifund project, the Unifund project now sponsor 90 students from both Jaffna University and the Eastern University. Unifund newsletter (in Tamil and English) is attached for further information.
Mr. Ponniah Arulanantham (Committee Member of Unifund project) has recently visited Jaffna and met with university staff and students. On behalf of the University, Dr. T. Velnamby (Senior Student Councillor), Mr. Yogeswaran Jeyakumar (Assistant Registrar for Welfare), Mr. Chandrasegaram (Deputy Chief Marshall) and the President of the University Student Union participated, observed and shared their views.

Mr Jeyakumar opened his address by stating, “though there are a number of groups providing financial assistance to our students, the Unifund project is the only project that is consistent, reliable and operates under the guidelines of the University. This is the only project that is operated through the Vice Chancellor’s fund. I’m very happy to work with the project.” Then Mr. Arulanantham explained the aims and objectives of the Unifund Project and how it operates, read more in our newsletter (attached).

URGENT REQUEST FOR MORE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:

In April and May 2010, 116 students of the University of Jaffna who were held in IDP camps have been released. Some of these students live with their parents after being in the IDP camps for such a long time. Over 50 students have applied for financial aid from the Unifund project, through the Vice Chancellor’s office. The President of the Student Union (Jaffna University) has also requested financial assistance for 35 students who have no financial support from their families. As such,the Unifund Project has decided to sponsor a further 50 students to assist with their financial needs. Pls see the attached. letter from the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna.

With the additional intake of these 50 students, the Unifund Project would have accepted over 130 students from Jaffna University and the Eastern University. The total sponsorship of the Unifund Project is now expected to exceed $80,000 per year. The Australian Medical Aid Foundation (AMAF) has kindly come forward to financially assist 25 of these students.

UNIFUND Sponsorship Program:

You may introduce the sponsorship program to your friends and family. The program pays Rs 4000 per student per month through the VC welfare fund on a prescribed date of each month. We request Aus. $50 per month to sponsor a student. If you wish to sponsor a University Student in Jaffna or Batticaloa, please download and return the duly filled and signed form to us.

Payment may be via electronic bank transfer or via a direct deposit to `Unifund Project’ account at the Bendigo bank. Payments can be quarterly ($150), half yearly ($300) or annually ($600). When depostiting please indicate clearly, Name of Donor. Cheque (in favour of `Unifund Project’) or money order or cash (paid only to our authorized members).
